We are women and men, seniors and young people, Democrats and Republicans and everything between. We have pre-existing conditions and some struggle with addiction. We have disabilities and rely on support to be independent in our communities. We parent kids with health challenges and we care for parents whose needs outstrip our resources. We are healthy but know that without good insurance we are just an illness away from catastrophe. Together we are the vast majority of Americans who believe that the GOP's attempt to "reform" our healthcare system is reckless, irresponsible, and devastating to our health and to out economy.
Over the past weeks we've called you thousands of times. We've rallied at your office, we've held vigils, and we've called for town halls. Now we are here again to demand that you ACKNOWLEDGE THE HARM this legislation will inflict and commit to OPPOSE ANY BILL that threatens our health and reverses the progress we have made.
We call on you to oppose any bill that harms us in ANY of the following ways:
Increases the number of uninsured in our country;
Guts Medicaid through block grants or per capita caps;
Ends Medicaid Expansion;
Results in higher premiums, higher deductibles, or more out-of-pocket costs;
Permits any discriminat ion by insurers against women, the elderly, or those with pre-existing conditions;
Permits "junk insurance" by eliminating essential health benefits.
Reduces healthcare funding by giving tax breaks to the wealthy;
Defunds Planned Parenthood or any provider offering vital services; or
Exempts Congress itself from any of the bill's provisions.
In the coming days, you will face a clear choice: to vote to harm millions and millions of Americans for the sake of partisan politics, or vote to do what's right.
We demand you vote against this bill and for the American people.
