Constable

A Pennsylvania State Constable is an elected public official serving in all Pennsylvania townships, boroughs, and cities except Philadelphia.

Although elected within a township, Constables are not part of the township government.

Pennsylvania State Constables are sworn law enforcement officers who serve six-year terms and have the duty to preserve the peace and the authority to arrest by warrant anywhere in the Commonwealth, and to conduct warrant-less arrests for felonies and breaches of the peace committed in their presence, including warrant-less arrests for felony violations of the drug laws.
